About Zeabur

Shutting down: services wind down from Dec 1, 2026; all stop on Dec 31, 2026 Announcement

Zeabur is a developer deployment and operations platform. It is closing: on October 17, 2026, founder Yuanlin Lin said dedicated servers stop renewing from December 1 and shut down at their own expiry dates, shared-cluster services are suspended, and all service ends December 31. Security incidents hit in August and October; the October report confirms 3,218,965 environment variables and 321,810 accounts' data were involved. An October 22 notice makes November 30 the target migration date and the refund and claim deadline. Avoid it for new projects; existing users should rotate secrets.

What it is

Zeabur is a deployment and operations platform for developers. The early pitch was one-click deployment: connect a GitHub repository, and the platform detects the framework, builds an image, wires up a database and hands back a zeabur.app subdomain, so developers skip writing Dockerfiles and YAML. Since 2026 the home page headline reads "Your AI DevOps Engineer", and the product centers on Zeabur Agent: ask in plain language and the Agent deploys services, reads logs, fixes failed deployments, rents servers and sets up email sending.

The product has several parts. Servers & Clusters lets users buy servers from AWS, Hetzner, Linode, DigitalOcean and other clouds through Zeabur, or bind their own server, on which Zeabur runs k3s and deploys services. Domain & DNS covers domain registration and automatic SSL certificates. Email Service is a usage-billed email sending API. The template marketplace offers one-click templates for open-source apps such as LobeChat, WordPress, Supabase, Dify and n8n, and template authors can earn money by sharing templates.

The operating company is Zeabur Inc.; the About page lists an incorporation date of January 14, 2025, names Yuanlin Lin as CEO and founder, and gives an average team age of 24. A blog post on November 11, 2025 announced a $2M seed round led by 500 Global, with Baidu Ventures, AVA Angels and early backer MiraclePlus joining; the same post claimed more than 5,000 paying individual users and 500% year-over-year growth.

The current status is shutdown. On October 17, 2026 the founder announced on the blog that Zeabur is winding down, with December 31 as the final date; purchases of new dedicated servers and domains stopped at once. Before that, AI Hub was discontinued on September 22 and unused balances went back to users' Zeabur balance. The other product pages on the site still look business as usual, but every one of those features runs on the same shutdown timeline.

Today, I have a difficult decision to share: we will be winding down Zeabur.

Core capabilities

First, Zeabur Agent. The changelog shows Agent V2 arriving on September 24, 2025, able to understand a project, read logs and resolve deployment problems; Agent-generated project security reports with one-click vulnerability detection followed on October 8; conversation history and tabs came on January 23, 2026. The home page also lists Skills, which let coding agents such as Claude Code drive deployments, servers and email on Zeabur.

Second, builds. zbpack was Zeabur's build engine for years, detecting frameworks with hand-written decision trees and producing images. A changelog entry on June 16, 2026 introduced its successor, zbplan: it uses few-shot AI to read the code and write a build plan, speeds builds with Dockerfile cache mounts, and regenerates the plan from the error when a build fails. zbplan is open to Developer, Pro and higher plans. zbpack, zbplan and the command line tool are open source on GitHub and written mainly in Go.

Third, servers and clusters. Dedicated Server launched on October 18, 2024, letting users bind their own server or buy one through Zeabur; on February 23, 2026 Zeabur said the shared cluster would take no new projects and shifted toward users' own servers. Multi-node Cluster, Wonder Mesh for machines without a public IP, multi-instance high availability, and the ZeaburOS option on July 22 followed.

Fourth, the surrounding services: domain registration and transfer-out, Zeabur Email, the Gateway entry point, a ⌘K command palette, a database table view, an iOS app and ticket-based Zeabur Support. A security upgrade on September 7 lets users delete SSH passwords and private keys stored on Zeabur and move environment variables and config files to their own dedicated server. All of these end with the platform on December 31.

Who it's for / Not for

By design, the target users were indie developers and small teams who did not want to write Dockerfiles and YAML, wanted a push to go live, and still wanted to run on cheap servers they rented themselves. Template users were mostly people self-hosting open-source apps such as n8n, Dify and LobeChat, and n8n was the database service read most often in the October incident report.

Since the shutdown notice, that positioning no longer applies. New users cannot buy new dedicated servers or domains; even if a project can still be created, it can run only into December before it has to move again, so it offers nothing to new work.

The people who need to pay attention to Zeabur now are existing users: those with services on the shared cluster, those renting dedicated servers through Zeabur, those with domains bought on Zeabur or using Zeabur Email, and projects that keep third-party API keys and database passwords in Zeabur environment variables. Their task is to migrate, rotate credentials and claim refunds, not to weigh whether to stay.

How it compares

Railway: the Railway pricing page (read 2026-10-25) lists Hobby at a $5 monthly minimum that includes $5 of usage, and Pro at a $20 monthly minimum that includes $20 of usage, with usage beyond that billed by the second; these are monthly prices. It is the closest match to Zeabur's early push-to-deploy experience, and Zeabur's migration guide names it as an example of a managed platform.

Render: the Render pricing page (read 2026-10-25) lists workspace plans Hobby at $0/mo, Pro at $25/mo and Scale at $499/mo, with compute billed separately and the smallest paid web service instance at $7/mo; these are monthly prices. Render's feature table lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 among its compliance documents, which suits teams that face security audits.

Coolify: the Coolify pricing page (read 2026-10-25) says the self-hosted edition is free; the cloud edition costs $5/mo on monthly billing for 2 connected servers, plus $3/mo per additional server, and yearly billing saves 20%. It is the closest match to Zeabur's bring-your-own-server mode, and the migration guide names it as an example of a self-hosted panel.

Inference: Zeabur's difference from these three used to be putting server rental, deployment, domains, email and AI operations in one dashboard, with docs and community in Chinese, Japanese and other languages. After the shutdown that difference is no longer a reason to choose it; picking among a managed platform, a self-hosted panel, k3s or Docker Compose is the practical path.

Getting started

New users should not sign up. For existing users, the official starting point is the migration guide published on October 20: have a coding agent such as Claude Code or Codex read the guide, take stock of services, compare two or three destinations, rehearse in the new environment and cut over once the user agrees. Users without a coding agent can open a Zeabur Support ticket with their services and expiry dates. The guide describes one real move: a Django site with PostgreSQL, Redis, the app and nginx, with matching row counts across 28 tables and about 6 minutes of downtime.

The guide lists what needs a new owner after the move: building images from Git source, the image registry, deploy-on-push and one-click rollback, zeabur.app subdomains, HTTPS certificate issuance and renewal, zeabur.internal private networking, variables injected across services, daily database backups, logs, metrics and alerts, and team members and permissions. The two most common failures are images and injected variables: missing images only surface once the platform shuts down and a service restarts, while missing variables break the database connection the moment you switch.

After the move, the October 23 checklist suggests letting the agent take a read-only inventory with the Zeabur CLI already logged in on the user's computer: personal and team workspaces, subscriptions, dedicated servers, projects and services, domains bought on Zeabur, email, AI Hub, and any other system that still points at Zeabur, ending with a draft refund ticket that the user sends personally. The guide warns against pasting a Zeabur access token into a chat, because the token can act on the whole account.

Pricing & license

The Zeabur pricing page (read 2026-10-25) lists subscriptions at monthly prices. Free is $0, with 1 bound server, a 2C4G build machine and 48 hours of log retention. Dev is $5/mo, with 3 servers, 7 days of logs, 30 premium-model Agent messages and 3,000 emails a month. Pro is $19/mo, with 10 servers, a 4C8G build machine, 30 days of logs, 200 messages and 50,000 emails. Team is $79/mo with 3 seats, $24/mo per extra seat, unlimited servers, 90 days of logs, 600 messages and 100,000 emails. Enterprise is quoted.

Trials and support: the pricing page gives Dev and Pro 14 days free, and Team has no free trial. Standard tickets target a first response within 4 working days, and an Express pass guarantees a 36-hour first response during working hours. Servers cost extra; the page's example shows DigitalOcean servers in one region from $14/mo, which requires a paid subscription.

Price history: a changelog entry on April 22, 2026 says the old plans were Free, $5 and a Team plan at $80; the new structure added Pro at $19 and moved Team to $79. The terms of service (updated July 14, 2026) say a cancelled subscription runs to the end of the current term with no pro rata refund. Shutdown refunds follow separate rules: balance refunds are capped at the cash actually paid, and prepaid time beyond December 31 is handled case by case; see the risks section.

License: the Zeabur platform is a proprietary commercial service. zbpack, zbplan and the command line tool are open source on GitHub under MPL-2.0. The latest zbpack release, v1.0.1, was published June 15, 2026 14:44 (UTC+8); zbplan v0.3.0 on July 23, 2026 12:01 (UTC+8); and the command line tool v0.24.0 on October 22, 2026 14:37 (UTC+8). Most zbpack commits come from two personal accounts, with 650 and 101; the top two personal accounts on the command line tool have 92 and 91.

Risks & limits

Shutdown timeline. The October 17 notice says purchases of new dedicated servers and domains stopped at once; from December 1, dedicated servers stop renewing and shut down on their own expiry dates, and all running services on shared clusters are suspended but can be restarted by hand to back up data; on December 31 all dedicated servers and shared clusters stop; the data deletion date, final data export deadline and Zeabur Support closing date "have not yet been finalized" and will be announced once confirmed. The October 22 notice instead says that paid plans also stop renewing from December 1, that on December 31 all services stop and service data is deleted, and that dedicated server data is deleted on each server's expiry date, which may come before December 31. The two official notices disagree on when data is deleted. The migration guide says servers rented through Zeabur belong to Zeabur's cloud account and are deleted at expiry, disks included.

Deadlines and refunds. The October 22 notice gives November 30 as the recommended migration date, in its words "Recommended deadline: complete all migration by November 30", to leave time to confirm the new environment works. The same day is a hard deadline: balance refund requests and security incident claims must each be filed through Zeabur Support by then; after that, balance refunds can only be requested by email and claims are no longer accepted. The refund is the remaining balance after final settlement, capped at the cash actually paid, so promotional credit is not refunded; accounts that run through the end of December should be paid by January 10, 2027. If the original payment method cannot be used, payment goes through the partner Tremendous.

The August incident. A report on September 7 says that on August 27 an attacker used CVE-2026-7644 in a NextChat v2.16.1 service a user had deployed on the shared cluster to gain code execution, reached a Legacy API Key in the routing cache over the shared cluster's internal network, read an AWS root key from an internal management service's environment variables, and finally used a maintenance job's private network link and database credential to read project environment variables in the production database, including third-party API keys, cloud credentials and database passwords. Zeabur sent the first notice on August 28 16:53 (UTC+8), asking affected users to rotate credentials; all Legacy API Keys have been disabled.

The October incident. A preliminary report on October 19 says the attacker used internal credentials that were stored in plaintext and never expired to enter the shared cluster, some GCP dedicated servers and internal systems; activity began on October 14 09:36 (UTC+8) and the last record is October 16 05:05 (UTC+8). The report's table of data involved lists as confirmed, in the platform database, 3,218,965 service environment variable records (names and values); account data such as email, username and phone number, plus project, environment and service data, for 321,810 accounts; and 566 zSend API keys stored in plaintext, since revoked; the attacker ran commands in 865 database services, not all of which succeeded, and logged in as root to 101 GCP dedicated servers, and the tokens that manage Hetzner and DigitalOcean servers leaked with the database. The report places the root cause with Zeabur: long-lived admin credentials stored in plaintext and usable from the public internet. Zeabur asks users to replace every password and key stored on Zeabur, including ones already replaced in August.

Gap between documents and events. The security practices page (updated May 15, 2026) says Zeabur is pursuing SOC 2 Type II and that production database access is limited to devices on Tailscale; the two incident reports record the attacker reading the production database twice, the second time after adding a node of its own to the internal network. The terms of service restrict use in some regions and for some purposes; the wording of the terms governs.

Background

Beginnings: the zeabur GitHub organization was created on June 18, 2022 16:26 (UTC+8), the main repository in November that year and the zbpack repository in December. The seed round post recalls the founder writing a thesis while taking outsourced projects, finding backend deployment painful and wanting to build a "Vercel for the backend", then joining the MiraclePlus accelerator after shipping a minimum viable product.

2023: Zeabur V1 shipped on March 30 with billing and a one-click Marketplace, and the post noted that some services had been banned over illegal use and abuse; the Marketplace went open source in May; templates arrived in June; on July 31 Zeabur was the top product of the day on Product Hunt and added a referral program; the command line tool shipped in September; a Serverless plan came in October.

2024: network traffic fees, prepaid deposits, project budgets and daily automatic database backups arrived; Dedicated Server launched in October, turning the platform from pure PaaS into an operations service that supports bring-your-own-server; paying individual users passed 1,000 on November 11; shared cluster prices changed on November 20; one-click Tencent Cloud server purchases came in December.

2025: a zbpack redeployment problem in August led to an incident report; Agent V2 arrived in September; on November 11 Zeabur announced its $2M seed round and more than 5,000 paying individual users; on November 12 it launched AI Hub for unified access to models from several vendors.

First half of 2026: on February 23 the shared cluster stopped taking new projects and the positioning became "Your AI DevOps Engineer"; Zeabur Email, Wonder Mesh, domain registration, the iOS app, new subscription plans, zbplan, high availability and ZeaburOS followed.

Second half of 2026: the first security incident hit on August 27, AI Hub was shut down as a defensive step and formally discontinued on September 22; credential migration tools shipped on September 7; the second incident began on October 14; on October 17 Zeabur announced the shutdown, citing growth that had hit its limits, an early, quickly built system that had grown hard to maintain, and the security and operations gaps exposed by the two incidents; the migration guide, the refund and claims notice and the pre-departure checklist followed on October 20, October 22 and October 23.

Our verdict

Recommendation: do not start new work on Zeabur. Existing users should first confirm the expiry date of each dedicated server and plan to finish migrating by November 30, the date the October 22 notice recommends, rather than waiting for renewals to stop and shared-cluster services to pause from December 1, rotate every key and database password stored on Zeabur, and file separate balance refund and incident claim tickets by the same deadline.

Inference: both incident paths ran through the shared cluster and old credentials that were being retired, and the shutdown notice names the incidents among the direct reasons for the decision; before December 31 the platform may make further service changes, so the earlier the move, the lower the risk of data loss and downtime.

Good fit: only as a starting point for leaving, for existing users who need to export data, transfer domains out and claim refunds or compensation.

Not a fit: any new project, any service meant to run long term, and any setting with strict requirements on credential security.

Why it matters

Polished, with documentation in Chinese as well as English.
