OpenBMB open-sources MiniCPM-OCR 1.0, a 1.3B-parameter document parsing model, with code and weights under Apache 2.0

OpenBMB open-sourced the MiniCPM-OCR family on October 27. MiniCPM-OCR 1.0 (1.3B) parses Chinese and English documents and PDFs into text, tables and formulas; the Jev model scores OCR output by region to flag parts needing review. OpenBMB claims 93.68 on Real5-OmniDocBench and about 1.49x PaddleOCR-VL-1.6's throughput, with vLLM, llama.cpp and Ollama support at launch.

Why it matters

Document parsing underpins RAG and agents that read PDFs; a permissively licensed 1.3B model is easy to run locally. Benchmark and throughput figures are OpenBMB's own and not yet independently reproduced.
