Apple acquires agentic data engineering startup Ascend.io in a hire-and-license deal
The EU's DMA acquisitions list shows Apple struck a deal with Ascension Labs (Ascend.io) to hire certain employees, take a non-exclusive license to its IP and be assigned some patents. Ascend.io uses AI agents to automate data pipeline ingest, transformation and orchestration; its site says it is winding down. Apple had notified the European Commission of the deal earlier.
Why it matters
It is another of Apple's small hire-and-license AI deals, pointing to investment in internal AI and data infrastructure, and shows how DMA filings are making such big-tech deals public.
