Android Studio adds Bring Your Own Agent, letting developers run Claude Agent, Codex and other ACP-compatible coding agents in the IDE
At Android Dev Summit on October 28, Google released Android Studio Rabbit 2 as stable with Bring Your Own Agent: developers can run more than 40 coding agents in the IDE via the open Agent Client Protocol (ACP), including Anthropic's Claude Agent, OpenAI's Codex and Google Antigravity. The Android CLI is now an official plugin for Claude Code, Codex and Antigravity.
Why it matters
Google opens its official Android IDE to rival coding agents via the open ACP standard, so Android developers are no longer tied to Gemini tooling.
