Akamai launches Akamai Inference and Akamai Agent Sandbox in beta on Akamai Cloud

On Oct 27 Akamai introduced two beta AI services on Akamai Cloud. Akamai Inference serves open-weight and custom models via OpenAI-compatible APIs, starting with 12 open-weight models (8B to 2.8T parameters) incl. Nemotron 3 Ultra, gpt-oss-120b and Gemma 4. Agent Sandbox isolates agent-generated code with WebAssembly and ships as an open-source Spin component.

Why it matters

An edge-cloud provider is packaging model hosting and agent code isolation as managed services, with the sandbox open-sourced. Akamai says Akamai Cloud holds multiyear contracts worth over $14 billion (company claim).
