How MCP’s Core Maintainers leverage Val Town to develop the protocol
Val Town interviewed Paul Carleton, an MCP Core Maintainer on Anthropic's technical staff, about how he uses Val Town to test and demo new MCP features. The Core Maintainer team has nine members from companies including Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, OpenAI and Amazon. On Val Town, Paul built a viewer for diffing the new spec, a client conformance checker, an OAuth debugger and TypeScript SDK examples, and he uses several vals to test new flows such as Enterprise Managed Auth.
The new MCP spec ( 2026-07-28 ) includes fundamental changes to the protocol.
