What Anthropic's New Claude Billing Means for Zed Users
Zed explains Anthropic's announced change to Claude subscriptions, which would split usage into one pool for first-party tools and a separately metered credit, priced at full API rates, for third-party agents and SDK use, after subscriptions had subsidized agent usage by roughly 15 to 30 times versus API pricing by Zed's estimate. A later update to the post says Anthropic has told subscribers the change is not taking effect yet, so ACP, Agent SDK and similar usage keep working for now. Zed suggests running the official claude CLI in a Zed terminal or switching to other providers and ACP agents.
