What GitHub Copilot's Usage-Based Billing Means for Zed Users
GitHub is moving Copilot Chat from per-request to token-based billing, replacing Premium Request Units with GitHub AI Credits, and in Zed every agent turn, inline assist, commit message or tool call that uses a Copilot Chat model will count. Zed suggests heavy users download GitHub's usage report to estimate costs under the new pricing, and switch the Agent Panel to Zed-hosted models, a ChatGPT subscription, their own API keys or local models if it no longer makes sense.
If the new pricing works for you, you can keep using Copilot Chat in Zed without changing anything.
