Zed Guild: What We Built, What We Learned

Zed looks back on the first cohort of its Guild, a 12-week program in which contributors spent 5 to 10 hours a week on reproduction, bug-fixing or feature tracks while pairing with staff engineers. About a quarter of several hundred applicants were invited, and 33 active contributors ended up merging 148 pull requests, with feitreim taking the grand prize. Zed concluded that work quality tracks the depth of relationships, so future code tracks will be smaller and more selective.

We ran the first cohort this spring.
