Val TownFrom the builder
Docfooding: Eating our own documentation
Val Town moved its documentation site from Astro and Cloudflare onto its own platform, server-rendering every page without a client library such as React and without a build step. The post says edits go live about 100 milliseconds after saving, but CSS must be stitched together at request time, so a cache miss can take up to about 500 milliseconds, and search moved from Pagefind to MiniSearch while the author concedes the new site may feel less snappy than the old one.
Val Town’s core tradeoff is not having a build step.
