The new Obsidian icon

Obsidian unveiled a new logo and app icon, noting it is nearing 1,000 community plugins, 100,000 Discord members and 1 million downloads of its latest release. The design draws on obsidian, the volcanic rock long shaped into blades, as a metaphor for sharpening ideas, and the team ties it to plain-text notes meant to stay readable for decades. The mark holds up in a single color, ships as customizable vector files, and arrives alongside a refreshed website with new Blog and Changelog sections.

The new Obsidian icon is inspired by its namesake, the volcanic rock which has been used since the dawn of humanity to make arrowheads, scrapers, knives, and other tools.
